Benjamin G. Messer leads the litigation department at HMA Law Firm, where his role is built around a simple idea: the firm’s associate attorneys get better, faster, when someone with deep courtroom experience is training them directly. Mr. Messer oversees HMA’s litigation team and personally mentors the attorneys and paralegals who work its cases. He is, in effect, HMA’s in-house teacher, brought in specifically because he is trusted to train other lawyers, not only to win cases himself.
He has practiced immigration law since 2013, with deep experience in removal defense, asylum, and federal litigation and appeals. At HMA, he is continuing a career-long pattern of teaching alongside practice.
Mr. Messer is a graduate of the University of Baltimore School of Law and Iowa State University. He is licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia, before the U.S. District Courts for Maryland and DC, and before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. He serves on the Executive Committee of AILA’s Washington, D.C. Chapter. He is fluent in English and Spanish.
